St. Peter's Habitat for Humanity Fall Project
October 18, 2008
A team of people from St. Peters gathered at
435 Undercliff Avenue, Edgewater on October 18th to make a difference for
future homeowners who will take ownership of their first home thanks to
Habitat for Humanity. Twenty three people worked full time or part time
shifts between the hours of 8 AM - 4 PM to transform existing dwellings
into new homes for people. Caulking, spackling, painting, scraping and
sweeping are just a few of the tasks that were in high gear this
particular Saturday.
The team consisted of high school seniors who were fulfilling their
service commitments, high school kids who came directly from their SAT
tests, college friends who gathered for the day as a group, seasoned
craftsmen who taught others the "how" of getting the job done, women who
learned new skills that would benefit them as homeowners, and others who
just wanted to "give back to the community."
Through the generosity of St. Peters Rosary Society, the team was treated
to home baked goodies for the morning and afternoon breaks. As soon as the
goodies were unwrapped, the building was filled with the scents of freshly
baked brownies and cookies, as well as pumpkin and cranberry breads. The
message was clear: the parish was supporting this team as they shared
their Stewardship of time and talents by volunteering for this Habitat for
Humanity project.
This weekend project is the third Habitat for Humanity event at St. Peters
and the parish is committed to continuing the opportunity for the parish
community to share their time and talents with the community to create
homes for new homeowners.
