The
History of the Parish Prayer Chain
Several
decades ago the Spiritual Life Committee grew out of the original Renew program. Some
of the members were told by Marilyn Kuhles of a parish that had formed a
network of callers to pray for parishioners who were ill. The idea of a
prayer chain was brought to Monsignor Casazza and he approved--providing
the committee would organize and manage it. It was officially born when a
parishioner called from Florida seeking prayers for her husband who had
suffered a heart attack. It has been going strong ever since under the
capable hands of Rose McCarthy and a devoted group of
people who believe in the power of prayer.
Things you should know
when requesting prayers:
-
It is helpful to know a little
bit about why the person needs prayers so that prayers can be focused on
the specific need, but it is not necessary.
-
The Prayer Chain requests
first names only, but we must have a name so that we can
include the person in our prayers.
-
Names remain on the prayer chain
for approximately one week.
If someone
you know is in need of prayers, the parish prayer chain will pray for that
person. Just contact one of the members listed below
and they will pass the name to other members of the prayer chain. Or use the online form.
Parishioners
are welcome to join this ministry of prayer as well.
