Retreat Dates

Mrs. Hanrahan is the director this year for Confirmation and can be emailed at EHanrahan@saint-peter.org or call 201-265-6019.

Important steps you need to take on your journey this year:

  • Prayer.

  • Come to mass weekly

  • Keep a journal

  • Come to all your team meetings, write in your journal afterwards any thoughts you have.

  • Service projects

  • Yellow sheet will be where you keep track of your hours. Use your imagination when choosing a service project, the list we have provided is by no means the only service projects available. Opportunity for service will also be emailed to you by your team leaders throughout the year as they arise. But be proactive: think about the following when trying to decide on a service project:

What are your gifts? How can you share them with those around you? What are you interested in pursuing in the future as a possible career? What are the needs of those around you?

  • After you have come up with an idea,

  • ALWAYS okay it with one of your parents.

  • You need approval from your team leader if it does not appear on the yellow sheet.

  • Check your calendar to make sure there are no conflicts!

  • Then contact the person or organization you would like to help. Have a script handy if calling by phone. Make sure you introduce yourself and explain that you would like to volunteer etc.

  • Have the person or organization you have helped write a letter stating the hours you have helped and staple it to your yellow sheet.

  • At least one service project has to be church/parish related.

  • After you have helped, write in your journal your thoughts. How did it feel to help? Do you think you made a difference? How? Was it easier or harder than you expected? How would it be to be the person or people you have helped? Did you make their journey easier?

  • Working for a parent or grandparent without charging or babysitting does not count as service hours unless approved by Mrs. Hanrahan.

  • A guideline to follow: have 10 hours completed by the end of September, 20 hours by the end of January, 25 by March 1st.

  • If you are having trouble deciding on a service project or anything to do with service projects, contact your team leader or Mrs. Hanrahan.

  • Choose a sponsor

  • Information given to you in your packet

  • You will also be asked to “interview” your sponsor. Please use the sheet handed out at the next meeting. It will also be posted on the website. Hand in your sponsor information as soon as you have it! Your sponsor should be someone you rely on for guidance throughout your journey this year.

  • Choosing a confirmation name

  • Although it is traditional to take a new name at Confirmation, it is not required. Instead, you may want to reaffirm your Baptismal name since the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation are so closely related. Should you choose to add a new name at Confirmation, the decision to do so should help you live as a disciple of Christ. It should be the name of a saint or one of the great men or women from the Bible who have gone before us in faith. You may also choose the Christian name of your Confirmation sponsor because this individual is an example for you of how to live a Catholic life. Spend time prayerfully reflecting about your choice. If choosing a Confirmation name, you will be asked to fill out a sheet explaining your choice.

  • Attend a retreat; you have a choice:

  • Confirmation Retreat scheduled for Saturday, January 23, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Antioch Weekend scheduled for February 5-7, 2010.

You will be interviewed by a priest in the latter part of your journey, that is why I recommend a journal!!!!

Should you have any questions or concerns during your journey, feel free to contact one of your team leaders or Mrs. Hanrahan at 201 265 6019.
