Our classroom space is very limited, and classroom placement is based on a first come, first served basis. If there is a problem with your request you will receive a phone call. We cannot promise your choice of day and, in some instances, if classes are filled it will be necessary to place your child on home study. Also, we cannot honor special requests for classroom placement.
PARENT PARTICIPATION
The call to be a Catholic
parent, to nurture the faith in your child and to share it in your family,
make you the first teacher of our faith for your child. We ask parents to
develop traditions for prayer at home, celebrating the liturgical year and
active participation in parish life. Each family is given A Parent Guide
to Prayer book. We ask that you read this book and use it at your family
prayer time.
Mass Attendance If children are not attending Mass weekly, the religion classes are meaningless. They must practice what they are learning if their religious education is to mean anything. Children become angry and resentful when they are made to come to class and there is no practice at home.
Mass Schedule: Saturday: 5:30 p.m. Sunday: 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m.
POLICIES
Absence and Attendance
If your child is absent,
please call the office. When your child returns to class, write a note to
his/her catechist explaining the absence. Please include child’s name,
date and reason for absence, and your signature. These are kept on file.
Tardiness Please have your child here on time. Any child arriving late should report to the Religious Education Office to have their name removed from the absent role.
Extra-Curricular Activities We recognize that our students are involved in activities such as sports, cheerleading, dance, etc. In recognition of this, depending on the availability of our volunteer catechists, we provide a choice of Sunday/Monday class. Once you have made that choice, we expect your child to be on time and present for the entire class each week.
Assignments Your child will be responsible to complete any home assignment. If your child is absent, he/she is responsible for making up the lesson and any assignments.
Progress Reports In grades 1 through 5, these reports are an assessment of how your child is developing through the Religious Education Program. We expect the children to be cooperative, complete home assignments, and allow themselves to grow in faith. In addition, the children will be graded on their knowledge of doctrine through quizzes, tests and assignments.
Discipline Our catechists have a little over an hour with your child. They are not here to discipline. We will not tolerate disrespect or rudeness by any child in any grade. Students are expected to: try to have good behavior at all times; treat the subject matter with the respect it deserves and take it seriously; and how respect to themselves, their classmates and their teachers at all times. If this does not occur, parents will be contacted after the second incident. If the problem persists, this becomes a problem for the entire class; therefore, your child will be placed on Home Study.
Cancellation of Class We have class every Sunday and Monday unless stated on the calendar. If for some reason we must cancel a class, a message will be left on the answering machine in the Religious Education Office and on the parish website. Cherry Hill, Roosevelt and River Dell will be notified of any cancellation.
The Home Study Program is offered as an alternative to our regularly scheduled classes for students who are facing a conflict with extracurricular activities or when our limited classroom space has reached its quota.
Home Study students will be notified of all special events and are required to participate. Unit assessment will be administered by the Religious Education Office. In order to successfully complete the program your child must obtain a passing grade average. Notification of dates will be provided to the parents.
