A Message from St. Peter’s Bereavement Ministry 3/21/2026

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ:

“Blessed are those who mourn,” our Lord assures us, “for they will be comforted.”

Among the Corporal Works of Mercy, one that is often quiet and unseen is burying the dead.  Yet it is one of the most profound ways we care for one another as a Christian community.  In accompanying families through death and honoring those who have gone before us, we proclaim our belief in the promise of the Resurrection and the dignity of every human life.

As a parish, we are blessed to walk with families during moments of loss.   From funeral liturgies and prayer to offering comfort and hospitality, these acts of mercy remind grieving families that they are not alone.

Some ways our parish community can help live out this work of mercy:

  • Pray for those who have died and their loved ones who are grieving

  • Attend wakes and/or funerals to support the grieving family.

  • Keep in touch with the bereaved, with a phone call or a card

  • Provide meals or support to families during times of loss

Also, for Lent, please consider joining our Parish Community to take part in a cemetery beautification morning of service on Saturday, March 28th from 9:00 am to 12 Noon at
St. Mary’s Cemetery, 224 Westminster Pl, Saddle Brook.  Volunteers will help with planting flowers, building birdhouses, replacing flags, and general cleanup.  More information can be found on the website.

In caring for those who mourn and honoring the dead with dignity we become witnesses of Christ’s compassion and hope.

St. Peter’s began a bereavement ministry dedicated to supporting those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.  Seasons of Hope is a scripture based, Christ Centered program that offers comfort, support, encouragement, and healing.   The support of this community enables participants to give voice to their unique journey and take a step toward spiritual growth.  If you know someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one, please consider referring them to our Bereavement Ministry.  More information on this ministry and program can be found on the website.

May the Lord bless you and your families with peace,

St. Peter’s Bereavement Ministry
