A Message From Liz Rutz 6/12/2026
Dear St. Peter’s community,
Growing up in this parish, there was one day each summer I never wanted to miss: the annual Parish Picnic. Every June, my family would head to Memorial Park, where it seemed like the whole church had gathered. My dad would grill copious amounts of burgers and hot dogs, my mom would introduce me to countless kind people, and my brothers and I would be off finding classmates, playing games, and enjoying the freedom of a community picnic.

Among these warm memories, it struck me how willing and joyously people took part in making the day possible. From serving food to running games to cleaning up, volunteers served with a smile – even when sweating behind a hot grill in the summer heat. I eventually experienced that joy myself once I was old enough to volunteer as a face painter!

I’m so happy to now share this blessing of a tradition with my own children. Last year, when this Parish Festival Mass & Picnic returned, I watched them experience outdoor mass, play the ball toss game, and be greeted by a myriad of familiar, friendly faces. Even “Pop Pop” was again at the grill! And already they are discovering that while cotton candy is yummy, it’s the people at the picnic who really make it truly great.
Whether you're new to this tradition or have enjoyed it for years, I hope you'll join us on June 28! After all, this is a celebration of our whole faith community! Invite a fellow parishioner, bring your family, and consider volunteering for a shift. Let’s continue creating the kind of memories and community that last for generations.
