“Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.”

Dear friends,

We are quickly approaching Ash Wednesday and the holy season of Lent! You may remember last year, when as a parish, we focused on deepening our commitment to and love for prayer. We continued to build upon this prayer foundation throughout the year, especially in our beautiful liturgies, Bible in a Year discussion group, Teen Bible Study, and so much more. Now, our parish will put our faith into action.

During Lent this year, St. Peter’s will focus on service and the Corporal Works of Mercy. If you are unfamiliar, the Corporal Works of Mercy are the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 25:35-46 that provide a framework for responding to the needs of the people around us. When we act with mercy, we see Christ in our neighbor and gain an awareness of God’s presence in our everyday lives.

During each week of Lent, we will feature a specific Corporal Work of Mercy. In the Mass, we’ll highlight the connection between the teachings of Scripture and mercy. During weekly discussion groups for men, women, and teens, we’ll go deeper in the experience of compassion and how it’s shaped our faith. We’ll engage in meaningful service every week to bring the love of Christ and our community to our neighbors.

I encourage you to join us for our Parish Lent Mission on Sunday, March 1 at 7pm. We are excited to welcome Sr. Pia Jude of the Sisters of Life, who will share her faith story and inspire us to live with generosity, joy, and compassion.

I look forward to journeying together in mercy as a parish family! We hope as many people as possible will grow in love for serving their neighbor this Lent, so keep an eye on the bulletin, our Lent website page, and social media for all event details. May the Lord continue to bless the people of St. Peter’s as we strive to follow Christ in word and deed this Lenten season.

In Jesus,

Fr. AJ
